May 16, 2021- A couple of things about New Hampshire
Hi Fam
Hope you are doing well and gearing up for your upcoming week. Things here continue to keep us busy and some days are longer than others but I think we have all experienced that.
Thought I'd share a couple of New Hampshire tidbits. First of all they LOVE their area code. 603. It can be found everywhere and on everything! Someone's stroke of genius for promoting tourism is my guess - but it worked. I will have to be sure to come home with something boasting 603 on it or I don't think anyone will believe we were here.
The Red Arrow Diner - "One of New England's most celebrated diners, this bustling downtown greasy spoon has been catering to politicians, students, artists and everyone in between since 1922".
Dad found this place on yelp when we were looking for a place for breakfast our first Monday here. We were being kicked out of our parking by 8AM for cleaning and since we don't have to start until 9 we went to breakfast.
This place is tiny - counter service and about 5 booths. It's open 24/7 and has been featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. The seats have small name plaques for people who sat in that spot. And they boast a menu with "So Much Food It Takes 2 Plates"
We enjoyed our breakfast and the experience and of course told all the other Senior missionaries about it. So on Friday night we get a phone call from the Area Dr who lives and works out of our area (he covers 6 missions) asking us and the other 2 couples to join them for breakfast Saturday morning at The Red Arrow. Tried to explain we wouldn't be able to sit all together but we all went. I'm not sure of anyone else's opinions. I get the impression not all of them are very adventurous in trying new food places.
Saturday afternoon we ventured to Concord NH which is the capital. The capitol building is old and still in use. Built in 1819 and has a gold dome and eagle on top. Lots of old original, but repurposed buildings on Main st. More quiet than you might expect a capitol city to be.
Our junior training missionaries left us on Friday. So now we will plug along hoping we do what we need to do correctly.
Happy Birthday this week to Heather and Emerson. We will be celebrating with you from here.
Looking forward to getting Sarah's graduation announcement - her pics on Instagram - so cute. Congrats to Jared - he passed his test! I think that means he's a bonafide RN
Stay in touch! It makes a big difference in my day when I get texts, updates and contact from you.
Love You,
Mom
Hello!
Busy week for the Car Czar, Vehicle Vicar, or Celestial Charioteer, take your pick. Highlight of the week was a call from Elders an hour away that thought their car had been stolen, but it was towed. Had to drive to the tow lot to pay ransom and get it back in the stable. Knucklehead things some do.
My days can get filled with lots of paperwork and random calls about gas cards, accidents, oil changes, etc. We have the capability to see on line where a car has traveled, and if the missionaries don't call In and Safe, we can see where their cars are and have been. No running from Big Brother.
We're pushing older cars out of our stock after new ones came in in Feb, so gradually seeing our lot empty. Seven more and I'm done for about 9 months til the next go around.
Highlight for me in Concord was seeing a Anti-Vax Rally on the steps of the Capital--some different brands of Granite Staters there. We're just ready to drop the masks and live normal lives.
Loved seeing Sarah's graduation pix! What a great kid! And congrats to Jared on acing his cert test. He's bona fide now.
Beautiful weather here--headed into the mid 80s. Green and pretty.
Until next week,
L,
